Look at that bunny! She’s so cute, but also so angular. Made from flat steel plates fit and welded into a faceted rabbit shape, she’s built to live outside. The weathering steel will rust just enough to form a stable, protective skin. At night, LEDs light him from the inside, visible through the seams.
This is the first faceted metal animal we’ve made. It was fun to build and even more fun to see in the wild. We expect he won’t be the last.
Bunnyhedron is a low-poly, faceted rabbit created May, 2025 by Glass House Arts in Escondido, CA.
Bunnyhedron was sold by Circle Center Gallery for $6,500.
It is made of Corten weathering steel, so will develop a nice patina over time. Four feet tall at the ears, and weighs about 100 lbs with three anchor points that can be adapted to dirt or a concrete pad. Lighting is integrated LED strips; power needs are less than 100 Watts and Bunnyhedron comes with a 50 foot extension cord and weatherproof electronics.
Fabrication was a joy, and unlike anything I had worked on before. A super confusing 3D puzzle, but also very physically demanding. Zero measuring, and zero fasteners - just folding and fitting.
We were inspired to build this by Quill Hyde's steel faceted animals, especially his stunning "Council of Animals". Check out his beautiful work here.
Also the Trojan Horse from Burning Man 2011, a defining feature of Colin's first burn.
